Music at Courtney
At Courtney we believe that the teaching of music should be enjoyable, interactive and engaging. We place great importance on the value of singing and have key stage practices each week where we introduce the children to a wide variety of music from around the world. We have a KS1 and a KS2 choir at Courtney who have many opportunities throughout the year to perform. Recently, we have taken part in the Clifton Cathedral Carols, sung at Colston Hall and visited the retirement home to entertain the residents. Our Christmas candlelight performance is a particular favourite giving children throughout the opportunity to sing, act or play an instrument.
KS1 in particular use music to support their learning and can often be heard singing their number bond songs or times tables. We have lots of fun in our music lessons, using instruments to create soundscapes, painting to different genres of music, learning how to keep a pulse on the percussive instruments and encouraging as much hands-on, energetic learning as possible.
